New Sandesund Bridge, Sarpsborg (Norway)
Bilfinger Berger has been awarded the contract for a 1,251 m bridge to be built in Sarpsborg, parallel to an existing two-lane bridge, which forms part of a four-lane upgrade to the E6 highway between Gothenburg in Sweden and Oslo in Norway. The new Sandesund Bridge has 40 spans and is up to 40 m high. Depending on their individual length, the spans are being built using the cantilever method, a launching girder or falsework. Due to the varying soil conditions, the bridge columns are founded either on driven concrete piles or bored piles or shallow foundations. The contract also comprises 800 m of roadworks at both ends of the bridge, connections, road-marking, traffic signs and lighting. After completion of this new bridge, the old bridge will be refurbished and all four lanes will be made available to traffic.
This project was undertaken by Bilfinger Berger Civil. The skills and expertise which created this project are replicated in the UK by Bilfinger Berger UK Limited.
